SLS processing of aluminum alloys involves the layer-by-layer sintering of aluminum alloy powder using a high-energy laser. Since the direct sintering of pure metal powders presents significant challenges, strategies such as "indirect sintering" or "polymer coating" are typically employed. By utilizing the unsintered powder as a natural support medium, this process enables the fabrication of lightweight, highly complex metal parts—without the need for additional support structures—that exhibit excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, as well as superior corrosion resistance and an absence of low-temperature brittleness. Consequently, it represents an ideal manufacturing process for applications in automotive lightweighting and electronics thermal management.
